It is used in surgical treatment of children or during long and painful operations in adults. It is a complete loss of consciousness by injecting substances with a strong effect together with medical gases through a tube/laryngeal mask or intravenously.
After recovery from anaesthesia, the patient is under the supervision of an anaesthesiologist in the intensive care unit for up to 2 hours.
